CARL DERFLER

Theory Teacher

Carl Derfler received his Master’s Degree in Music Composition at the University of Alberta and a PhD in Music Composition and Theory from the University of Oregon. His compositions have been played internationally, most recently by the Star of the North Concert Band during their tour of Argentina. Dr. D has taught music theory, ear training and sight singing, composition, form and analysis and counterpoint at the university level at the University of Alberta and at Radford University. He has also taught music students of all ages from Kindergarten through graduate school. Dr. D. plays violin as a member of the Blacksburg Community Strings and the Bedford Community Orchestra, and clarinet with the Blacksburg Community Band as well as piano and guitar.
